  Abstract
  Bhopal is a beautiful city which is famous for its planning and greenery. The city represents a fine assortment of forest trees, avenue trees, fruit trees and trees planted during plantation programmes. These trees flower and produce pollen grains to multiply the species. Pollen grains produced by some of these trees may trigger on allergenic reactions in sensitive people. Pollen production in 11 such trees of allergenic significance was studied. The production per flower and per cent liberation of pollen grains from the flower was calculated. Maximum production per flower was reported in Eucalyptus globulus and minimum number was obtained in Azadirachta indica. Percentage liberation of pollen grains ranges from 94% to 100%. Production was reported to be higher in anemophilous species than in entomophilous species.

  Antibacterial activity of Hibiscus rosa sinensis and Calendula offcinalis flowers extract against various Pathogen

  Abstract
  From the long period of time, plants have been a valuable resource of natural products for human health . Some of plants leaves showing antimicrobial activity . The Primary benefit of using plant derived medicines is that they are readily affordable and accessible and showing fewer side effect . In the present study, I have evaluated that antibacterial activity of Hibiscus rosa sinensis flowers and Calendula offcinalis flowers extract against some clinical isolates of bacteria. The crude preparation of Hibiscus rosa- sinensis flowers were tested against Gram Positive- Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative- Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Simultaneously Standard antibiotic solution of ampicillin is used. Calendula offcinalis flowers crude extract antimicrobial activity was evaluated against Gram Positive- Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis. Gram negative - Pseudomonas aeruginosa , E.coli , Salmonella thyphi . Gram negative bacterium - Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed maximum zone of inhibition against Hibiscus rosa- sinensis flower extract and E.coli against Calendula offcinalis among these organisms. Simultaneously standard antibiotic solution of ampicillin was used. This experiment was done by agar gel diffusion method. The flower materials can be taken as an alternative source of antibacterial agent against the human pathogens. There may be possible use of these flowers extract for making drugs. Further pharmacological and clinical studies are required. These extract may be tested against multiple drug resistance microbes.

  Air pollution is one of the severe problems facing the world today due to contineous changes in the environment resulting from human activities such as vehicular traffic and industries. Air pollution can directly affect plants via leaves or indirectly via soil acidification. Screening of plants for their sensitivity level to air pollutants is important because the sensitive plants can serve as bio-indicators and the tolerant plants as sink for controlling air pollution in urban and industrial areas. Ascorbic acid is a natural de-toxicant which may prevent the damaging effect of air pollutants in plant tissues. The level of this acid declines on pollutant exposure. The present study indicated that different road side trees responded differently against air pollution due to automobile exhaust. Ficus religiosa was found to be the most tolerant species while Santalum album and Aegle marmelose were found to be susceptible species.

  Web building spiders are known to have poorly developed eyes, and acoustic organ for communication. Thus the only mechanism possible for mate identification is chemical communication. In nature female spider build a web and male wander around until find a terrestrial pheromones through female silk. Our preliminary experiments have confirmed absence of air borne pheromones. To ensure existence of semiochemicals series of experiment were carried out on a Therididae spider Steatoda grossa between combination of mature male with mature and immature female Steatoda. Male Steatoda when introduced on web of female showed vibration and female also showed vigorous vibration in response to male vibrations. Male responded to female web as soon as he landed on web confirming existence of some kind of identification factor on web which can be semiochemicals. The semiochemicals receptor have been detected on leg of Steatoda grossa through SEM. The receptor are located on the hair arranged in rows concentrating mainly on tarsal segment both the short and long hairs act as receptor for receiving stimulus.
