  Spectrophotometric study of the oxidation of fosfomycin by potassium permanganate in aqueous perchloric acid medium _ a kinetic and mechanistic approach

  Abstract
  The kinetics of oxidation of fosfomycin (FOS) by potassium permanganate in perchloric acid medium has been studied spectrophotometrically at 25 oC and at constant ionic strength of 3.60 mol dm-3. The stoichiometry of the reaction is determined and found that one mole of permanganate requires one mole of FOS (1:1). The reaction shows first-order dependence in permanganate and apparently less than unit order in both fosfomycin and acid concentrations. The identified oxidation products are Mn2+, formyl phosphonic acid and acetic acid. Reaction rate increases with increase in ionic strength. The increase in the acetic acid content in the reaction medium decreased the rate of the reaction. Based on the experimental results a mechanism involving complex formation between MnO4- and substrate has been proposed. The reaction constants involved in the different steps of mechanism are calculated and activation parameters with respect to thermodynamic quantities are computed and discussed. From this spectroscopic investigation we proposed suitable scheme of the experiment.

  Abstract
  The fatty acid may be either saturated or unsaturated. The main objective of this work was to identify the fatty acid composition of several edible oils and fats. Taking most four different types of edible oils and fats, coconut fat, peanut oil, olive oil, rice bran oil samples were taken, tested with widely accepted and internationally used methodology of Association of ISO 548 Part 3 for used for fatty acids analysis. Fatty acid analysis of the four type of edible oil was carried out using a gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector, stainless steel packed column. Among the evaluated oils the higher contents of different fatty acids were found in coconut fat (lauric 46.110), peanut oil (oleic 40.750, linoleic 40.477), olive oil (oleic 77.665), rice bran oil (oleic 44.322). The result showed that the coconut oil contained the highest percentage of saturated fatty acids (92.178 %) compared to peanut oil (18.36%), rice bran (19.948%) and olive oil (13.067%) and the olive oil highest percentage of long chain mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids (86.934%) compared to peanut oil (81.641 %), rice bran oil (80.053 %), and coconut oil (7.822 %).

  Abstract
  Albizia is the very valuable medical plants, the whole part of the plants are very useful in the medicines in India as well as the other part of the world in the different medicines systems. The bark and root of Albizia, belonging to the family Fabaceae, is an important medicinal parts of the tree found in India. The aim of the study is the preliminary phytochemical evaluation of the bark and the root of the concerned tree. The preliminary phytochemical investigation of the plants is very significant commercially and has great importance in pharmaceutical industry for the production of the new drugs for curing of various diseases. It is expected that the important phytochemical properties recognized by our study in the indigenous medicinal plants of Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth. will be very helpful in the curing of different diseases of this region.
