Abstract :
Synthesis of Schiff bases via conventional methods is described, involving the condensation reaction between aldehyde and 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole 2-amine. After purification and characterization, seven Schiff bases (5a-5g) were successfully synthesized. Physical characteristics were recorded, and purity was confirmed through various techniques including TLC, melting point determination, elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and mass spectral studies. FT-IR spectra showed characteristic peaks confirming the formation of Schiff bases, while 1H-NMR spectra provided insights into molecular structure. Biological screening against bacterial species revealed varying degrees of antibacterial activity, with compounds 5e, 5f, and 5g exhibiting notable effectiveness against E. coli. Structure-activity relationship analysis suggested that electron-withdrawing groups enhance antibacterial potency. Additionally, some compounds demonstrated strong antifungal effects against various fungi, indicating the potential of these compounds as antimicrobial agents. Further research is warranted to elucidate their mechanisms of action and explore additional properties before considering them for medicinal use.
