Abstract :
The ability of 2-deoxy-d-glucose (2-DG) to interfere with d-glucose metabolism suggest that diet and energy deficiency are old therapies for cancer prevention and survival. An analog of glucose, 2-deoxy-D-glucose, (2-DG) interferes with glucose metabolism, and has shown promise as a diagnostic and therapeutic agent in some pathological conditions such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer`s disease, etc. Virus-infected cells, it has also been shown to increase their glucose absorption and recently the Comptroller General of Medicines of India (DCGI) has given its approval to the therapeutic use of 2-DG in the treatment of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus infection, 2 (SARS-CoV-2) which has attracted international attention and has become a global problem. Therefore, in this review article, an attempt was made to consider the synthesis, diagnostic and therapeutic applications of 2-deoxy-glucose, with special emphasis on its effect in acute respiratory viral infections-COV-2.
