Abstract :
The Bida basin is a NW-SE trending basin located in the central part of Nigeria of which the Enagi formation is a lithostratigraphic unit. The section studied showed a succession of conglomeratic sandstone facies, trough cross bedded sandstone facies with a fining upward sequence and mudstone facies towards the top of the studied section indicating multiple regime of energy in the tidal current responsible for the deposition. The conglomeratic sandstone facies and sandstone facies comprises of tidal channel deposits, tidal channel lag deposits and deep braided channel deposits indicating high energy tidal currents were responsible for their deposition while the mudstone facies was deposited by low energy tidal current and considered as overbank deposits with evidences indicating that they are of braided fluvial system. Absence of fossils indicates that the sediments are of continental origin. Statistical interpretation from data generated using the sieve analysis technique indicated that sediments of the samples acquired are bimodal in nature, medium to coarse grained and are moderately to poorly sorted due to limited time for sediments to settle under gravity as a result of the high energy level of the moving current responsible for deposition and bivariate plots generated suggests that the sediments are of fluvial origin.
