Abstract :
Chalcopyrite disease in sphalerite could be resulted from various processes such as exsolution, replacement and co-precipitation. The disease texture developed from exsolution process commonly occurs in metamorphosed sulphide ores. Morphological or textural features of chalcopyrite inclusion in host sphalerite could be used to discriminate between the replacement and co-precipitation mechanisms. Replacement products are characterized by the lamellar nature however co-precipitation products are characterized by triangular habits of chalcopyrite. In the present study, textural characteristics of chalcopyrite and sphalerite developing ?chalcopyrite disease? in ores samples from the polymetallic mineralization of Scharchet area has been examined under ore microscope using refracted light. Based on the textural features of chalcopyrite inclusions in the host sphalerite examined from optical ore microscopy, the formation mechanism of chalcopyrite disease has been determined. Base on the ore microscopic examination, the chalcopyrite disease occurring in the sphalerite from the Scharchet ore mineralization was characterized by triangular habit of chalcopyrite and those blebs are in epitaxial nature. Thus, it can be concluded that chalcopyrite disease texture in the Scharchet ore has been resulted from the co-precipitation process during mineralization.
