Abstract :
The scapula is a flat triangular bone and superior border of scapula presents a notch called the suprascapular notch and notch is converted into a foramen and suprascapular nerve passes through the suprascapular foramen and this nerve could be compressed due to variations in the shape of the suprascapular notch. Suprascapular nerve entrapment neuropathy characterized by vague pain on the posterolateral aspect of the shoulder joint. Present study was conducted on 104 human dried human scapulae and different shapes of suprascapular notches on superior border of scapula were observed. We found that 46 (44.2%) scapulae with U shaped suprascapular notch higest in number while only 4(3.8%) scapulae notch converting into suprascapular foramen. These variations could be kept in mind during surgical or arthroscopic shoulder procedure to prevent suprascapular nerve injuries
