Abstract :
The study investigates the influence and direction of the relationship between gender inequality and the regional economy. The development of Indonesia`s Gender Inequality Index and economic growth in the observation period tended to slow down and increase, respectively. The panel regression model is used to obtain more detailed information regarding the impact of this relationship. The data used in this study are sourced from the Statistics-Indonesia, namely the Gender Inequality Index (GII) as a proxy for gender inequality and Real Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita as a proxy for the regional economy. This study concludes that modeling between gender inequality and the regional economy is a fixed-effect model. This is caused by: (1) there is only one variable forming the gender inequality index that is directly related to the economy, namely the level of work participation of men and women who have a share that is not strong in index aggregation, (2) in regional economic development, policymakers at the provincial level do not focus on gender equality-oriented policies and work programs that support the economy but instead push the performance of resources that can absorb investment and increase regional income.
