Abstract :
Transforming from face-to-face to online mode posed one of the biggest challenges because neither the students nor the faculty members are accustomed to it. Traditionally, engineering education dealt with teaching that is content-centered, hands-on, and design-oriented with a special emphasis on the promotion of analytical thinking skills. Engineering education demands sufficient integration of classroom discussion with synchronous lab instructions because engineering education is a field where theory and lab work go hand in hand. This study aimed to describe the perceptions of the 193 engineering students towards an online class given through the Canvas learning management system selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire administered through google forms. Utilizing weighted mean, results revealed that in terms of time spent on coursework, the purpose of giving coursework, and parent’s involvement, they perceived it as fairly favorable. Using linear regression analysis, results indicated that the profile of the students does not significantly affect their perceptions towards an online class.
