Abstract :
The study evaluated the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on lecturers’ work engagement in Nigerian Universities. Five questions were raised and five hypotheses tested in the study. Design of the study was correlation. The population of the study was all the lecturers in Public and Private Universities in Nigeria while 60 lecturers were sampled using convenience and purposive sampling techniques. Instrument used for collection of data was questionnaire titled “Lecturers Work Engagement Scale” (LWES). The research questions were answered using Point Biserial Correlation while the hypotheses were tested by comparing the significant value with the alpha value of 0.05. Findings of the study showed minimal effects of the pandemic on lecturers’ work engagement across gender, designation, marital status, discipline and institutional type. It was also revealed that there was a negative relationship between the work engagement of lecturers based on their gender, designation and marital status but a positive relationship existed across discipline and institutional type in the era of the COVID-19 induced pandemic in Nigerian universities. Similarly, the study showed that the effects of the pandemic was significant on lecturers’ work engagement across their gender, designation, marital status and discipline but was not significant across their institutional type in Nigeria. It was revealed that adequate training programmes should be organized for these lecturers to minimize the effects of the pandemic on their work engagement.
