Abstract :
The influence of physical factors such as microwave, laser radiation, Ultraviolet (UV) radiations, magnetic field, and ultrasound treatment is an alternative for soil additives and fertilizers. A Laboratory test was conducted in completely randomized design (CRD), with three replications, in 2019 at the Department of Agronomy, Green Fields Institute of agriculture research and training, Hyderabad to evaluate the effects of microwave radiation on germination and seedling growth of Cowpea (Vigna Unguiculata), Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), and green gram (Vigna radiata) seeds. Seeds were treated with two different powers of microwave radiation (350 and 700 W) at two-time intervals for 2 and 4 minutes. A set of seeds was not treated and used as the control for statistical analysis. The experiments were carried out for a total duration of 30 days in both seasons (Kharif & Rabi). Analysis of variance data showed that microwave radiation improved germination and seedling growth of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), and green gram (Vigna radiata) seeds in all treatments compared to the control treatment. Whereas, Cowpea (Vigna Unguiculata), seeds have shown decreased germination compared to control treatment, Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), and green gram (Vigna radiata) seeds. And in the tests conducted for vigour, cowpea (Vigna Unguiculata), Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), and green gram (Vigna radiata). seeds by 350 and 700W microwave radiations at all time intervals have shown higher germination and seedling growth compared to control during Kharif season and decreased physiological response during Rabi season.

Key-Words / Index Term :
Microwave Irradiation, of Cowpea (Vigna Unguiculata), Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), Green gram (Vigna radiata), Physiological response, Kharif season, and Rabi season.
