Abstract :
Clinical cases of indication for prescription of antibiotics are specified according the pathology, severity of its appearance and specifics of causative bacteria. The dentist must be equipped with the necessary knowledge about these indications, accompanied by antibiotic dosing or combination of antibiotics that is indicated. This knowledge is basic, but also needs to be modified over the years, following all the modifications in the field of pharmaceuticals. This study is based on realization of a standard and combined questionnaire, taking into account and consulting with several questionnaires applied before and published in the literature. Data collected from the professional questionnaire were processed to obtain the following results. In cases of periodontitis the % of correct answers for taking or not antibiotics for this diagnosis is 47%, for pathology of apical periodontitis is 27% and for periapical abscess is 83%. Amoxicillin is the recommended antibiotic at rate of 48%, in case of antibiotic allergy. Prophylaxis for endocarditis is at 72%; subacute endocarditis at 88%; bye-pass at 80% and artificial valve at 66%. Prophylaxis if not contraindicated, the correct answers are: viral infection in 58%; diabetes I / II in 59%; respiratory disorders at values 73%; anemia value 78%; tachycardia values 70%; congenital anomalies in 35% of cases and hypertension in 84% of cases. The connection between the oral-dental status of the patient and the pathologies of organs or systems in human body is the point of close connection of the dentist with the doctor, and vice versa. Publications in the literature emphasize this link and should make dentists more aware or more careful in early diagnosis of pathologies or minimal changes out of normal course of functioning.
