Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to examine the Perception of Students on the Use of Social Media for Academic purposes in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi. The objective of this study determined whether Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University students used social media, it determined whether Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University students uses social media for academic purposes and it determined whether Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University students learning habits influenced by the use of social media. The relevant literatures were reviewed under six subheadings. The study was carried out in the two campuses of the University (Gubi and Yelwa campuses). To achieve this, a survey research design was employed, which involved the use of structured questionnaires (PSSMAP) to collect information from the target population. The population of the study was 10250 with a sample size of 2795 and total of 2795 questionnaires was distributed. A stratified simple random sampling technique was used and three research questions were used for the study. Data was analyzed using simple descriptive statistic that involved the use of Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) software. Findings revealed that ATBU students used social media, connected to social media for academic purposes and finally social media has influence on ATBU students learning habit.
