Abstract :
This study investigated the influence of psychosocial variables (educational qualification and age) on selected sociocultural practices (female genital mutilation and women inheritance) among women in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The study has three purposes and three research questions. A sample size of 392 respondents were choosen. Descriptive survey design was used with cluster sampling technique to select women for the study. The r-value of (0.78) was obtained and converted using Spearman Brown formula to have reliability co-efficient of (0.85). Findings of the study showed that educational qualification significantly influenced the perception of women on female genital mutilation (FGM), it also indicated that age variation significantly influenced the perception of FGM, the result also showed that educational qualification significantly influenced the perception of women on female inheritance and age variation also significantly influenced the perception of women on female inheritance in Oruk Anam. It is therefore concluded that educational qualification and age of women influenced their perceptions toward FGM and women inheritance in Oruk Anam. The study recommended among others that parents should give their female child best of training.
