Abstract :
This paper conducts a nuanced comparative analysis on the depiction of marginalized women in contrasted societal contexts through the juxtaposition of two fictitious characters. Moll White, navigating the male-dominated 18th century milieu in Joseph Addison’s The Coverley Papers, stands in a stark contrast to Weird Barbie from the 2023 live-action Barbie movie set in the post-modern matriarchal Barbie Land. Following a qualitative research methodology, this study’s inquiry centers on the complex interaction of deeply entrenched gender stereotypes, casting light on how these stereotypes significantly contributed to the fates of Moll White and Weird Barbie. The results unequivocally support the active promotion of gender equity and an inclusive social fabric by contemporary society. The research emphasizes the need to go beyond the boundaries of conventional patriarchy or matriarchy, recognizing that advancing the position of marginalized women requires a comprehensive approach and calling for a shared commitment to promoting true equality and social inclusiveness.
