Abstract :
This study determines the retention of pedagogic competence of Business Teacher Educators prior to their graduation from universities in Nigeria. This will go a long way in unveiling their strength and weaknesses before being confirmed as teachers. The study adopted inferential-descriptive survey design. Three hypotheses guide the study through using social learning theory as its theoretical foundation. Two Federal Universities of Technology in North East Nigeria with a population of 491 BTEs were used. Employing stratified proportionate sampling technique, 216 was deduced with the aid of Krejcie and Morgan table for determining sample. Two structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Face and content validation for the two instruments (PCSQ and PPCRQ) adapted were done by three experts. The reliability co-efficient of the test-retest was established at 0.89 and 0.72 for PCSQ and PPCRQ, facilitated by SPSS Version 25. The findings revealed only ID to be positive and significant, with CM and CAT though positive, but were not significant in predicting BTEs perceived retention. The study recommends among others that concerned in Faculties of Education should draw the attention of the university managements to the need of stockpiling their libraries with pedagogic books, more especially in CM and CAT.
