  Comparative Study on Mechanical Properties of SiC and Al2O3 Reinforced in Al6061 Matrix by Stir casting

  Abstract
  Usage of aluminium based metal matrix composite is unavoidable material for many engineering applications especially to weight – strength ratio needed. In this paper, the comparative study has been done for micro-structural and mechanical characteristics of Al6061 metal matrix reinforced with Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Aluminium Oxide (Al2O3) discretely. Test specimens were fabricated by adding 0, 5 and 10 wt % of SiC and Al2O3 in Al6061. Stir casting method used for the preparation of Al6061 composites. Morphology of the reinforcement particles and fabricated part was studied by SEM and Optical Microscope respectively, to analyze the distribution of particles in the Al6061 composite. Mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile and yield strength were carried out as per ASTM standards. The result proved that the density of composite is increases by increasing wt% of reinforcements in the matrix. The hardness value of SiC reinforced composite is higher than that of Al2O3 reinforced composite. Also the result shows that the maximum tensile strength at 5% wt of Al2O3 and SiC composite were identified.

  Analysis of the Influence of Mn2+ Incorporation on Structural and Spectroscopic Features of CdS Nanoparticles

  Abstract
  Nanocrystalline bare and Mn2+ doped CdS with different concentration have been synthesized by employing a simple chemical co-precipitation method. In order to gain crystalline nanoparticles of CdS and CdS:Mn; cadmium acetate, sodium sulphide and manganese (II) acetate have been utilised as the supply of cadmium, sulphur and manganese (Mn) respectively. DMF has been used as the stabilizing agent and also the reaction catalyst. The structural analysis of the prepared samples by X-ray diffraction (XRD) exhibits the Mn2+ dopant atoms are incorporated at the Cd sites and authenticate the cubic phase, without affecting the original cubic phase of CdS and the particle size estimated to be around 3 to 5 nm. The scanning electron microscopy has been employed to study the morphology of the prepared samples. UV-Vis spectral analysis validates the significant blue shift in the optical band gap of CdS nanoparticles on account of the quantum confinement impact. The optical band gap of the samples is found to be decreasing with the accumulation of dopant content. The presence of functional groups in the prepared samples has been detected by making use of the FTIR technique. The PL emission spectrum shows two major emission peaks one in the blue region and second in the red region along with one broad lower intense peak in the IR region.

  Abstract
  The cation deficient perovskite (Ba6Ti5O18) has been successfully synthesized using auto combustion technique. Thermal analysis of obtained powders is carried out to investigate the phase development and to optimize the preparation parameters. The evolution of the desired phase, its structure, lattice parameters and crystallite size variation as a function of calcinations/firing temperature have also been studied using XRD analysis.

  Abstract
  Single crystals of dipotassium fumarate dihydrate (DKFD) have been grown by slow solvent evaporation method. The structural characteristics of the grown crystals was studied from single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal system of the grown crystal was found to be monoclinic. The lower cut-off wavelength of DKFD was found at 300 nm and good transparency window was observed from 300 to 1100 nm. The existence of various functional groups was established from FTIR and FT Raman spectroscopy. The study of the molecule is established using NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability and decomposition behaviour of the grown crystal is analysed using TGA/DTA analyses. Third order nonlinear susceptibility χ3 of the crystal was measured at the wavelength of 532 nm by z-scan technique. The observed high value of χ3 is attributed to the hydrogen bond present in the structure of the crystal.

  Abstract
  Complex Dielectric spectra of Methyl acetate (MA) with 2-Alkoxyethanols like 2-methoxyethanol (2-ME), 2-ethoxyethanol (2-EE), 2-butoxyethanol (2-BE) for various concentrations over the frequency ranges from 10MHz to 20GHz at 308.15K were recorded using Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR). The dielectric constant, dielectric permittvity and dielectric loss were obtained from the TDR measurement. The molecular interaction parameters like relaxation time, Kirkwood correlation factors, Bruggeman factor, excess dielectric constant, excess inverse relaxation time and excess Helmholtz free energy of activation were also calculated. This study gives the information about the nature of molecular interaction between the participating liquid molecules.

  Abstract
  Semiorganic nonlinear optical single crystals of Bisthiourea potassium sulphato Oxalate (BTKSO) are successfully grown by slow solvent evaporation technique at ambient temperature. The structural property of grown BTKSO crystal was determined by single crystal X-Ray diffractometer. It reveals the triclinic structure with the space group of P1, and the lattice parameters are a = 9.4 ± 0.5Ǻ, b = 10.1 ± 0.5Ǻ, c = 15.7 ± 0.8Ǻ, V = 1400 ± 200Ǻ3. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) studies substantiate the functional groups of the present crystal and the presence of elements was confirmed by employing energy dispersive spectroscopic technique. The optical behavior and transparency nature of BTKSO crystal were studied by UV-Vis-NIR spectra. The Kurtz powder technique is used to ascertain the nonlinear optical behavior of the grown crystal. Its second harmonic conversion efficiency (SHG) is found to be 1.31 times higher than that of reference potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) material. The photoluminescence spectrum of the title crystal shows the strong green emission at 573 nm. The thermal and mechanical behaviors of the grown crystal were studied by thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analyzer (TG/DTA) and Vicker’s hardness test respectively.

  Abstract
  In the present work, With the intention of removal of colour from Coomassie Brilliant Blue R (CBBR), a triphenylmethane azo dye using the synthesized Nickel Calciate nanoparticles (NiCaO2) in presence of natural sunlight. The nanoparticles were synthesized by using solution combustion method and characterisation was done by Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), Brunauer Emmett-Teller surface area determination and point zero charge determined by pH drift method. The band gap was determined by using UV-absorption spectroscopy. The rate of degradation efficiency was studied by varying different parameters such as catalyst concentration, solution pH dye concentration. The rate of degradation is highly efficient in 5×10-4 mol/dm3 dye concentration with pH 6 and constant catalyst concentration 0.027g/50ml. Pseudo first-order rate constants and initial rates were determined and the photocatalytic mechanism was proposed. The result proves that NiCaO2 can be used for removal of dyes from CBBR.

  Abstract
  We investigate the spatially homogeneous Bianchi Type-III space time with electromagnetic field tensor and relativistic charged perfect fluid in Brans-Dicke (B-D) theory of gravity. Solutions have been obtained by using a general approach of solving the partial differential equations. It is observed that the convergent and isotropic solution of the metric function can be derived with the components of the vector potentials.

  Abstract
  In this research article we have investigated that combined effects of variable permeability and variable magnetic field in the presence of chemical reaction on unsteady MHD (Magnetohydrodynamics) flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past an inclined plate through porous medium with exponential temperature and concentration. The governing equations of non-dimensional forms of flow field have been solved numerically using Crank-Nicolson implicit finite difference method. The results are obtained for velocity, temperature and concentration. The effects of various parameters by taking different values of them are resulted and discussed on flow variables like velocity, temperature and concentration are presented through graphs and tables.

  Abstract
  Indoor and outdoor gamma dose rates were evaluated along the coastal regions of Thangasherry, Kollam district, Kerala through direct measurements using a GM based gamma dose survey meter, time integrated measurement using CaSO4:Dy based thermo luminescent dosimeters (TLDs) and gamma spectrometry of soil samples. The mean value of total annual effective dose rate observed were 0.26 ±0.01mSv/yr , respectively with an indoor to outdoor dose ratio of 0.54. The radioactivity content in the soil samples, the absorbed dose rate, annual effective dose equivalent, radium equivalent activity, internal and external hazard indices , the representative gamma index and alpha index (Igamma and Ialpha), the annual gonad dose equivalent (AGDE) and the excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) were determined and compared with recommended values. Correlation study showed that the dose estimated from the TLDs is better correlated with that measured directly using the portable survey meter. The results of natural radioactivity levels in the soil samples has been compared with the levels reported in other Indian cities as well as other parts of the world.
