Abstract :
It has been considered worthwhile to study excitation wavelength dependence of emission spectra for the aqueous solution and films of Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) doped with 2-naphthol. It is observed that PVA and PVAc films the absorption and emission spectra of 2-naphthol are similar to the corresponding spectrum of 2-naphthol in water. But for PMMA while the absorption spectrums is as similar to absorption spectrum in other polymers and water the emission spectrum differs considerably. Such a difference has been explained on the basis of one to one binding of 2-naphthol with PMMA molecules. The absorption, excitation and fluorescence spectra of these organic molecules are dependent upon the polymer composition and the micro environment surrounding the fluorescence. In this study we investigated that excitation wavelength dependence of emission of these polymer films. The study concludes that the observed excitation wavelength dependence of the emission spectrum is attributed to different conformations present in the polymer matrix
