  Abstract
  Ipomoea aquatica, popularly known as Karmatta Bhajji, is a green leafy vegetable crop commonly consumed in rural areas of Chhattisgarh. It is supposed to possess several medicinal properties. The plant has rich iron content and is used traditionally to treat gastric and intestinal disorders. For phytopathological studies of this crop, survey and screening was done for two consecutive seasons in and around Raipur city, during 2011-2013. The diseased leaves were collected and brought to the laboratory for isolation. Chaetomium globosum, was isolated from the leaves showing a large number of white coloured small spots resulting in deformity of leaves. The crop is seriously damaged by C. globosum, locally named as Gomaha diseases resulting in an enoromous loss of crop. Fusarium oxysporum,was isolated from the leaves with brown spots. The cultures were maintained on Potato Dextrose Agar slants for further studies.

  Genetic study of advance breeding lines of soybean under Excess Monsoon Rainfall condition in Kymore Plateau zone of Madhya Pradesh

  Soybean is the principal oilseed crop in India contributes 43 % oilseeds and 28 % edible oil production in the country. Rainfall and temperature are most important factors influencing the crop yield of soybean (Reddy, 2014). In recent years soybean productivity has been turn down due to impact of alteration in rainfall and climate. Prolong excessive rainfall in Madhya Pradesh rose major trouble to the growth and productivity of soybean. In kharif 2013, early and excessive monsoon rainfall occurred in M.P. and total rainfall recorded in Jabalpur from June 2013 to Oct 2013 was 2400 mm. Present experiment was carried out comprising of 50 promising soybean breeding lines sown during kharif 2013 in RBD with three replications at Seed Breeding Farm, JNKVV, Jabalpur, M.P. Observations were recorded for phenological traits & fourteen morphological traits. Statistical analysis revealed that seed yield per plant have highest phenotypic (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) followed by number of pod per plant, number of seeds per plant. High heritability with high genetic advance was found for number of pods per plant, seed yield per plant biological yield per plant For tolerance to high and excessive rainfall, fifteen soybean breeding lines viz., JS 97-52, JS 95-60, JS 20-29, JS 20-34, JS 20-41, JS 20-50, JS 20-69, JS 20-71, JS 20-75, JS 20-82, JS 20-89, JS 20-98, JS 20-99, JSM 207 and JSM 302 were identified, these all have shown fair yield under excessive rainfall conditions.

  Callus Induction, Anti Microbial Screening and in Vitro Plantlet Regeneration of Adansonia Digitata L.: Anendangered Medicinal Tree

  Adansonia digitata L. (Bombacaceae) is a majestic tree revered in Africa for its immense medicinal and nutritional value. Commonly called as Baobab, the tree is stem succulent and is native to dry regions of tropical Africa, Australia and Madagascar. The tree can grow up to 25 metres in height, 28 metres in girth and may live for several hundred years. Being one of the largest and world’s oldest tree, Baobab was introduced in India by Muslim traders almost 500 years ago. Adansonia has very limited distribution in India and in Madhya Pradesh. In India, it is commonly called as ‘Kalpavriksha’, ‘Mandav imli’, ‘Khursani imli’, etc. The tree is known for its high economic value as well as numerous biological properties including anti-malarial, anti-pyretic, anti-oxidant etc. and almost every part of the tree is found to be useful for treatment of various diseases. At present, it faces a crisis of survival due to lack of knowledge and awareness on the need to protect and conserve it. The present study was carried out to isolate important bioactive components using cell and suspension cultures, to determine antimicrobial activity and to standardize a protocol for in vitro propagation of this rare woody tree species. Plant growth regulators like BAP, NAA, TDZ were used for callus induction and formation of somatic embryos. Various parts like leaf and fruit pulp were used and their extracts were prepared in methanol and aqueous solvents. The anti-bacterial activity was evaluated against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Looking into its extremely thin distribution in the Indian sub-continent, tissue culture approaches have been initiated for its future conservation. An in vitro protocol was developed for shoot induction using seedling explants and BAP, Kinetin as growth regulators. Results indicate that the leaves and fruit pulp show remarkable bioactivity against Staphylococcus aureus. These can be considered as good potential drug candidates as antibacterial agents. Maximum callus induction occurred in leaf explants with a combination of BAP (2 mg/l) and NAA (7 mg/l). The apical explants were found more responsive to kinetin as compared to BAP and more responsive in MS as compared to WPM medium for the induction of shoots. 70% shoot induction occurred with BAP (0.5 mg/l) and Kinetin (2 mg/l). Thus, a standard protocol was generated for shoot multiplication using tissue culture techniques for conservation of this medicinal tree. The conservation strategy under Indian sub-tropical states will help in studying its medicinal properties for further research on this multipurpose tree species.

  Type 2 diabetes is treated with tablets and regulated diet. In spite of this, in most diabetic patients, it is not possible to achieve and maintain completely normal blood glucose level throughout the entire day with these conventional therapies. Alternative treatments for diabetes have become increasingly popular in the last several years, including medicinal herbs, nutritional supplementation, acupuncture, and hot tub therapy. As an alternative approach, medicinal herbs with anti hyperglycemic activities are increasingly sought by diabetic patients and health care professionals. Herbal formulations are preferred due to lesser side effects and low cost. Fenugreek, Black Sesame and Bitter cumin are traditional herbs and medicinal indigenous ingredients science a long time herbal medicines have been used in the management of disease. We conducted a study to ascertain of fenugreek, black sesame, bitter cumin powder taken orally had any effect on the blood sugar level of type 2 diabetic patients.
