  Diversity of Avian Fauna in and Around Kalyani, a Sub-Urban City near Kolkata, West Bengal, India

  Abstract
  Avifaunal diversity has proven a crucial factor for maintaining the ecological equilibrium of any given ecosystem. The present investigation determines the avifaunal distribution, diversity and status in and around Kalyani from December 2021 to January 2023. During the appropriate study period, a total of 73 bird species belongs to 39 different families under 17 orders were reported. In agreement with the status of the bird species, 63 (86.30%) species were regional, 3 (4.11%) winter migrant, 4 (5.48%) regional migrant, 2 (2.74%) migratory and 1 (1.37%) monsoon visitor. Winter visiting species were Western yellow wagtail, Citrine wagtail and Common moorhen. Two migratory species were Common hill mayna, Sand Martin and one monsoon visitor was Jacobin cuckoo. Determining the relative abundance of the birds, 25 (34%) species were commonly seen, 31 (42%) very common, 12 (16%) uncommon but not rare and 5 (6.8%) rare. The Sturnidae (5 species) was the most diversified family in the investigation area, followed by Ardeidae, Alcedinidae, Columbidae and cuculidae (each having 4 species). The study also found seven unique feeding habits viz. 27% carnivorous, 26% insectivorous, 21% omnivorous, 11% granivorous, 9.6% frugivorous, 4.1% Nectarivorous and 1.4% Nectarivorous/Insectivorous species of bird. The current report is an attempt to chronicle the diversity of avian population in and around Kalyani and it is necessary to conduct a more through systematic research in order to investigate and safeguard the avifaunal variety within this area.

  Abstract
  Water is an inevitable part of living organisms. Water pollution is a serious environmental threat to people who consume, enter, and wash in contaminated water. The aim is to study the quantified levels of carcinogens in the environment, according to IARC Classification such as Arsenic, Benzene, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Cobalt, Nickel, Lead, Nitrite/Nitrate, and Phosphates and their correlation with increased spikes of cancer cases across districts that lie along Vaigai River Basin, Tamil Nadu, India. A Systematic literature review for cross-sectional studies that provided information about groundwater quality was carried out using six databases, "Researchgate, PubMed, Elsevier Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, Medline, and SpringerLink" from 2012 to 2022. The TNCRP report from 2021 was used as the basis for calculating the proportion of all cancer cases in the relevant district. Based on the Newcastle Ottawa Scale, a quality assessment was conducted. The results show the presence of high concentrations of carcinogens in the groundwater and sediments collected near the industries, commercial zones, and agricultural land. The significant association between exceeding the permissible limit of various heavy metal elements and compounds and the percentage of cancer cases at that particular site has been established in this study. Vaigai River is highly polluted such that the heavy metal concentration has already entered the human food chain. Oral findings commonly associated with chronic toxicity of carcinogenic heavy metals are listed which serves as an alarming signal to adapt to a healthy lifestyle and dietary modifications as required.

  Abstract
  Flora of Libya database includes about 168 plant families that need to be updated periodically. This review is submitted as a modern field simulation of Araceae species endemic herbaceous to Libya. This study included field visits to ten sites in Al-Jabal Akhdar region, an inventory of species belonging to Araceae, a comparison was made between our study`s morphological measurements and those found in flora of Libya. This Study revealed a distribution of three herbaceous species belonging to Araceae in Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar represented by (Arisarum vulgare, Arum cyrenaicum and Biarum bovei). Biarum bovei was the least found species by 40%. The results of the morphological study also showed some discrepancies, especially in morphological measurements such as plant height, number of leaves and some floral characteristics (length of spathe and spadix), which may have high taxonomic values in identification and classification of the members of Araceae.

  Abstract
  The pollution of soils by chemicals that contain heavy metals from automobile sources is an important environmental issue. Due to this important issue, a research was conducted to Assess the Effect of Heavy Metal Accumulation in Plants along Heavy Traffic Roads in Zamfara State, Nigeria. In this research, some selected edible plants (Sorghum, Cowpea, Groundnut/Peanut) were collected from five different locations along Gusau – Sokoto road as treatment samples. At the same time three plants were collected from Jaurin Rogo, Gusau as control samples. The plants samples after digestion were prepared and analyzed six metals (ZN, Cd, Pb, Cr, Ni, & Cu) by using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and the results when compared with WHO/FAO (1996) threshold limits of heavy metals in plants, were found to be above permissible limits for two heavy metals (Cd & Cr) in all plant samples. The research findings unveiled the risk associated with planting and rearing besides major traffic roads of the country and recommended proper monitoring of the planting sites and cash crops such as cotton should be planted instead.

  The liver, a complex organ with multifaceted functions, is subject to a myriad of genetic influences that contribute to individual variations in liver function. This review article explores the intricate relationship between genetics and liver function tests (LFTs), shedding light on the molecular basis of hepatic health. We delve into the key genetic determinants influencing various LFT markers, including alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), bilirubin, and others. Advancements in genomics, particularly through genome-wide association studies (GWAS), have unveiled a wealth of genetic variants associated with alterations in LFT parameters across diverse populations. This review synthesizes findings from these studies, providing insights into the genetic architecture of liver function and its implications for clinical practice. We discuss the clinical significance of genetic polymorphisms in the context of liver diseases, emphasizing their potential as biomarkers for disease risk stratification. Furthermore, the review elucidates the genetic underpinnings of specific liver conditions, such as hemochromatosis, Wilson`s disease, and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, highlighting how genetic factors contribute to variations in liver function tests and disease progression. The impact of genetic diversity on drug metabolism and hepatotoxicity is also explored, emphasizing the importance of personalized medicine in optimizing treatment outcomes. The integration of genetic information into the interpretation of LFT results is discussed, emphasizing the evolving landscape of precision medicine in hepatology. We address challenges and opportunities in incorporating genetic data into routine clinical practice, considering ethical considerations and potential benefits for patient care. In conclusion, this review consolidates current knowledge on the interplay between genetics and liver function, providing a comprehensive overview of the molecular basis of hepatic health. Understanding the genetic determinants of liver function not only enhances diagnostic accuracy but also opens avenues for the development of targeted therapeutic interventions, ultimately paving the way for personalized approaches to liver health assessment and management.

  Numerous skin conditions are mostly brought on by fungi, particularly in underdeveloped nations. Chemotherapies may be derived from natural compounds with therapeutic efficacy. Without any supporting evidence, Tapinanthus globiferus has been widely used in ethnomedicine to cure fungal infections, diabetes, cancer, ulcers, and hypertension. The purpose of this study was to use agar well diffusion techniques to screen the phytochemical constituents and assess the antifungal properties of T. globiferus`s aqueous methanolic leaf extract against a few clinical fungal isolates, such as Alternaria nees, Microsphaeropsis arundis, and Aspergillus niger. The African mistletoe Tapinanthus globiferous is a parasitic plant that grows on several plants, including citrus, Videx doniana, Adensonia digitatata, Piliostigma thonningii etc. Saponins, tannins, cardiac glycosides, steroids, terpenoid, and flavonoids were detected in the Aqeous methanolic leaf extract of T. globiferus growing on Vitex doniana, Adensonia digitata, Vitellaria paradoxa, and Piliostigma thomningiii, but terpenoid was not present in the T. globiferous growing on Vitellaria paradoxa.. The presence of this antifungal activity of T. globiferous is not as a result of a single phytochemical. The MIC of T. globiferous growing on the host plants was determined using disc diffusion method. The antifungal activity of T. globiferous growing on the respective host plants increase with increase in concentration. At some concentration the activity of the extract is higher than that of Fluconazole. All the fungal isolates are susceptible to T. globiferous except Microsphaeropsis arundis. Since the aqueous methanolic leaf extract of T. globiferus exhibits strong antifungal activity against a few chosen fungus species and clearly supports the plant`s ethnomedical use in treating fungal infections, the use of this plant as an antifungal drug seems encouraging.

  Performance of Hybrid Rice varieties JRH-5 and JRH-19in front line demonstrations under irrigated conditions in agro climatic zone Chhattisgarh plains of Madhya Pradesh

  Abstract
  Frontline demonstrations were conducted with scientific package and practices in the farmer’s fieldslocated in the Chhattisgarh plain agro climatic zone of Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh to evaluate the performance oftwo short duration hybrid rice varieties JRH-5 and JRH-19 under irrigated ecosystem during the Kharif season of two consecutive years2016 and 2017. The data on yield and economics of demonstrated plotswhen comparedwith the farmers rice cultivating practices on the popular rice variety MTU-1010 revealed thatboth the Hybrid Rice varieties performed superior to MTU1010. JRH-5 and JRH-19 with improved production technologies showed increasedmean grain yield by 27.64% over existing farmers practices with only Rs. 2638/ha extra expenditureon inputs. In addition to this, the mean extension gap (11.88 q/ha) and mean IBCR (5.80)recorded weresufficiently high to motivatefarmers to adoptJRH-5 and JRH-19 with the improved rice production technology.
