  Determinants of Agircultural Financing among Small Scale Farmers in Kanduyi Sub County Kenya

  Abstract
  Small scale farming is turning out to be a primary determinant of productiveness, economic growth and creativity. Therefore microfinance is being used to empower participants in small scale farming through boosting farming into an economic activity by cushioning farmers from acute challenges of poverty. Despite the researches done, there still exists a gap on agricultural credit financing among small scale farmers in Kanduyi Sub County with reference to interest rates charged, household economic factors, financial credit regulation and demand for collateral quality. The research investigation pursued to find out the determinants of agricultural financing among the small scale farmers in Kanduyi Sub-County, Bungoma. This was specifically addressed by seeking to analyze the degree by which interest rates charged, household economic factors, financial credit regulations and the extent by which demand for collateral security affects small scale farmers’ access to agricultural credit finance in Kanduyi Sub County. A descriptive research design based on survey methodology was used by the research investigation to address the research objectives. In the study, an extract of 392 respondents was randomly extracted from the study population of 18,580 small holder farmers. The researcher relied on primary data source that was captured using a structured set of questions. Descriptive and regression models were adopted for analysis of the collected data. The research findings noted that interest rates, household economic factors, financial credit regulations and demand for collateral security considerably increases agricultural credit financing for small scale farmers in Kanduyi Sub County. The research work recommended the need for development of affordable cost of credit models, increase in financial literacy programmes, improvement and provision of facilitative legal reforms on collateralization and the need to collateralize standing crops as key solutions to increase access to agricultural financing by small scale farmers.

  Rambutan: A Neglected Tropical Fruit with High Economic Value among Small-Holder Farmers in Unguja Island, Zanzibar

  Abstract
  Tanzania is bequeathed with good weather, especially in the coastal belt of Zanzibar Island for the growth of temperate and tropical fruit with great potential values known as rambutan. However, very little information exists on rambutan farming in Zanzibar. Thus, this paper aimed precisely to investigate the status, socioeconomic benefits, and challenges facing rambutan farming in Unguja Island, Zanzibar. The study was descriptive in nature and implemented the use of simple random sampling techniques to select sixty (60) small-holder farmers for the study. An open-ended questionnaire was used to gather information from the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using simple frequencies, percentages, mean statistics, Chi-square and ANOVA. The results show that rambutan farming is of great value among small-holder farmers as it enables them to earn income that greatly ranges from Tanzania Shillings (3-8 million) per year. Apart from that, farmers managed to own various assets including: - houses, land, and livestock which collectively support them to improve their livelihoods. However, results from the Chi-square test (?2) depict that there is a significant correction between income (p=0.02), assets owned (p=0.04), and the well-being of rambutan farmers. Some challenges reported to face rambutan farmers include: lack of government support, natural disasters (climate change), lack of proper technology, market and price, animal destruction and diseases. The study concludes that rambutan farming is of paramount importance to smallholder farmers in Zanzibar and other coastal areas in Tanzania. It was then acclaimed that special consideration especially the government and other stakeholders should put to initiate, and supporting small-holder farmers who deal with rambutan farming for their livelihood improvements and national economic development at large.

  Abstract
  The purpose of the study was to identify the causes and level of truancy among basic school pupils of Adjena United Basic school in Asuogyaman District, Ghana. The research design used was a case study design. A simple random sampling was used in selection of pupils from the primary classes in Adjena United Basic School. The sampling technique was purposive and it was used to sample a population 120 of pupils from a target population of 90. Questionnaire was used to collect data. The study revealed that causes such as the perspectives of students showed that they agreed to pupils that, peer group pressure is the most rated cause of students’ truancy. On the whole, there was a high level of truancy among pupils in Adjena United Basic School. Again, the regression analysis showed that there was effect of truancy on academic performance of pupils in Adjena United Basic School. Based on the findings, it is recommended that counselling pupils effectively must be done by the management of the school to understand background of pupils and thereby placing value and instilling confidence into the pupils.

  Education 4.0 needs a massive change in the teaching and learning process by maximizing the use of technology in planning, executing, and even monitoring and evaluation. This study was undertaken to assess the readiness of Senior High School Learners in Embracing Education 4.0 Competencies from the Schools Division of the City of Meycauayan. The study used a quantitative method of research. The learner-respondents were 525 randomly selected from the four senior high schools (SHS). Data collected were treated using frequency, percentage, and means. Results revealed that the readiness of the learner-respondents in terms of activities done using the internet registered often in making phone calls. There is almost half of the learner-respondents use the internet to purchase items with a “high” verbal interpretation. More than half of learner-respondents also use the internet in Filipino and Social Studies in the learning process. In Education 4.0, most of the learner-respondents registered with a “high” verbal interpretation. In addition, the results show that the learner-respondents learn Filipino and Social Studies more with friends in the classroom. The data collected were analyzed and led to the conceptualization of the proposed activity proposal for the SHS learners in embracing Education 4.0 in terms of learners’ abilities, technology, and training for teachers.

  The practice of participation has received varied outcomes as it is for its conceptualization and perceived benefits. The paper examined the level of awareness of women`s participation informed by expectations and challenges in the practice of local elections in Tanzania. It utilized the case study of Magomeni ward, Bagamoyo district to inform the mixed approach paradigm. Using a sample of 30 women participants, data were collected using key informant interviews, questionnaire survey, and Focus Group Discussion. The results indicated that despite the high level of expectations of awareness on women`s leadership at the local level there were low experiences on women`s capacity to excel on political matters limited by economic, cultural, and political challenges. These altogether deter the practical satisfaction of community members on women leaders. However, women leaders were found to be confident and expressive of satisfying community expectations in leadership positions. It was concluded that there were high potential expectations of women`s participation in local elections in the Magomeni ward despite low practices influenced by political, cultural, and economic challenges that surround women as actors of participation in elections in the area. It was recommended that more investment is needed to uproot the socially constructed realities underpinning women at family, society, and individual attitudinal levels that may find solutions by instituting a gender centred educational system from kinder care to university levels together with a community-based approach to gender equality in all formal and informal institutions.
