Abstract :
Southwest monsoon rainfall has an undeviating effect on Indian economy. Different climatic conditions across India affect the monsoon at different places in different ways. Hence, it becomes important to study the factors related to the monsoon rainfall at a microscopic level. Our study concentrates on Nagpur, the geographical centre of India. In this paper we have found that the onset date of southwest monsoon in Nagpur city is not uniformly distributed over the month of June by using Chi-square goodness of fit test. An interesting result about the interconnectivity between arrival of heat wave and southwest monsoon is obtained using Chi-square test of independence. The relation between evapotranspiration and ground water level is also explored. It is found that the type of vegetation at a place majorly affects its ground water level. Multiple Linear Regression is also used to find the factors significantly affecting the amount of precipitation in the region and established a model for future rainfall prediction.
