  Abstract
  The quality of water and occurrence of water borne diseases are critical public health issues. The most serious public health risk associated with drinking water is microbiological contamination thereby making it a priority for water quality testing. The objective of the study was to assess the quality of drinking water by isolation and enumeration of organisms through microbiological examination. Water samples were collected from four different regions - North, South, East and Central Kolkata. Microbial and fermentation tests were performed in the collected water samples followed by confirmatory IMViC tests to detect the presence of microorganisms. Microbial estimations indicated the presence of coliforms in water which may lead to diseases like diarrhoea and gastrointestinal problems. The biochemical tests also displayed the occurrence of the members of the Enterobacteriaceae family including E.coli, Enterobacter sp and Klebsiella sp. These microorganisms deteriorate the quality of drinking water making it unfit for human consumption. Therefore, accurate testing of drinking water is crucial in maintaining the health and safety of inhabitants who rely on this resource.

  Concept of Galactogogue (Mudirr-i-Laban) in view of Unani Medicine

  Abstract
  The WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for infants up to six months as the normal infant feeding method and considered “gold standard” of infant nutrition. In the first few days of neonatal life in exclusively breastfed infants, excessive weight loss and late birth weight catch-up are emerging problems. Lactation failure due to poor breastfeeding technique and insufficient breast milk production can cause several medical conditions in infants such as dehydration, hypernatremia, and hyperbilirubinemia. Synthetic drugs have significant adverse effects in both mother and infant. Mudirr-i-Laban (galactogogue) is the medications in Unani medicine that could help in increasing milk production to overcome the insufficient lactation without any adverse effect in mother and infant. Many herbs are used to increase breast milk production can easily and safely be added to the everyday diet. This review expands the concept of Mudirr-i-Laban (galatogogue) mentioned in Unani system of medicine and some common natural herbal galactogogue used in the management of Qilla al-Laban (oligogalactacea). Only few of them have been experimentally studied. Studies are needed to gives verification for the mechanism of action of these herbs as galactogogue.

  Abstract
  ‘Marma’ literary communicates the sense of vital parts of the body. The science of Marma is an unique approach of Ayurveda and established to help the practice of surgery. There are total 107 Marma’s in the human body. These are classified into five types according to location, structures involved, effect and consequences or prognosis of the trauma over there. Any type of Marmabhighata (injury to Marma) is likely to produce subjective manifestations governed by the extent and the nature of injuries to the Marmas. Tridosha in the body have their Panchabhautik origin. The Pancha mahabhautas are the main constituting component of Tridosha such that, the consequence of traumatised Marma has got direct bearing on the predominance of Tridoshas over there. Any trauma to these Marmas is likely to provoke both the Shareerik and Manasik dosha which thereby affects the body (Sharira) and Mind (Mana). So, as the base (body and Mind) gets affected, the Jeevatma or Bhootatma itself ceases to exit. This changes in Marma after injury such as deformities and delayed healing mainly depends upon the consequences that occur due to patho-physiological changes over Marma.

  Abstract
  Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a spore-forming, gram-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium. During sporulation, Bt produces proteinaceous crystals called Cry proteins that are lethal to many insects’ species, so are commonly used as biological pesticide. Transgenic Bt crops are genetically altered to express insecticidal toxins that cause fatality of a number of general agricultural pests. The insecticidal toxins formed by Bt crops possess narrow range of toxicity and therefore less non-target impacts as compared to conventional insecticides. A decrease in the amount and regularity of insecticide applications are financially advantageous. In numerous regions of the world, insecticide inputs have been significantly reduced because of Bt. The use of Bt crop technology might help in worldwide food security by escalating the amount and steadiness of crop yields. Though impact of Bt toxin on non-targeted organism is a serious issue yet no conclusion could still be drawn from several studies. This review summarizes the benefits of Bt crops including the impact on non-targeted organisms and Bt toxins having potential risks with respect to the environment.

  Abstract
  The major burden of vector-borne disease in India comes from malaria. The biggest burden of malaria in India is often observed in backward or poor and remote parts of the country which might be due to the limited access to medical treatment or lack of knowledge on mode of malaria transmission and its preventive measures. A better understanding of the socio-economic, behavioral risk factors and knowledge gaps related to malaria infection are essential when developing coherent and effective policies Socio economic information was collected from 4872 participants in three PHCs (Jainoor, Sirpur, Lingapur) irrespective of their age and gender. The occurrence of malaria was significantly higher in individuals those don’t have schooling/primary education compared to secondary/higher education level participants. Malaria infection was observed to be elevated in households with farmers head as compared to households with daily labour or employs. The present study demonstrates that those variables related to education and poor health infrastructure are the most important factors in reducing the risk of malaria infection.

  Abstract
  Tridax procumbens Linn. is an widespread herbaceous weed distributed throughout India. It is commonly known as coat buttons, is also dispensed as Bhringraj, and used as Ayurvedic medicine for liver disorders and hair growth. The plant is an annual or perennial herbaceous weed, found mainly in the croplands, disturbed areas, lawn, and roadsides. Literature survey suggested that the various parts of the plant were reported to possess phytochemical compounds like alkaloids, carotenoids, flavonoids, saponins, fumaric acid, β-sitosterol, and tannins. It was richly endowed with oleanolic acid, and high content of sodium and potassium are also present. Bioactive components like luteolin, glucoluteolin, quercetin, and isoquercetin also have been reported from its flowers. Primary plant pigments such as chlorophyll and carotenoids also analyzed from leaves. So, it is well known for several potential pharmacological activities like anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, wound healing, insecticidal, hepato-protective, anti-diabetic, immune modulating, anti-cancer, anti-dysentery, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hair fall. The present review study deals with natural habitat, taxonomical, phytochemical, pharmacological and toxicological activities of Tridax procumbens. This study may be helpful for identification and preparation of a clear profile of the plant which may open new avenues in the medical field in the treatment of various diseases.

  Abstract
  The present study was carried out to assess the antiapoptotic effect of Ajuga bracteosa leaves on the hepatic dysfunction in alloxan induced diabetic chicks. Hydroalcoholic extract of Ajuga bracteosa leaves was prepared by standard method as prescribed earlier and apply for monitoring the liver enzymes including Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), Aspartate amino transferase (AST - SGOT) and Alanine amino transferase (ALT - SGPT) in experimental chicks, including diabetic control and diabetic treated with the hydroalcoholic extract of Ajuga bracteosa leaves at the rate of 100gm/Kg body weight and normal control chicks fed with water ad libitum. Present study reveals a significant (p<0.05) decline in the level of these enzymes in the chicks treated with hydroalcoholic extract of Ajuga bracteosa leaves up to the control level as compared to chicks of diabetic control group. Therefore, administration of hydroalcoholic extract of Ajuga bracteosa leaves in diabetic chicks significantly ameliorate the enzymological parameters for the assessment of hepatic dysfunction in diabetic chicks, which showed the potent antiapoptotic effect of Ajuga bracteosa leaves extract on hepatic dysfunction in alloxan induced diabetic chicks.

  Abstract
  Sericulture or silk farming is the rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk. The mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori is a domesticated and monophagous insect which feeds only on the leaves of mulberry for its nutrition. In this study we investigated the growth and economic parameters of Silkworm, Bombyx mori (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) by dietary supplementation of thiadiazole. Thiadiazoles are heterocyclic compounds containing oxygen and nitrogen. 1, 3, 4, thiadiazoles are extensively studied and are known to play diverse biological activities. Diamines or polyamines are found in various biological fluids and are necessary for optimal growth, replication and metabolism of every cell in the body. This report describes the synthesis of diamino substituted thiadiazole and its effect on the growth parameters of Bombyx mori silkworm. Results show that the thiadiazole resulted in increased worm weight, silk gland weight and cocoon weight. We conclude that the thiadiazole can be fed to Bombyx mori silk worms for improving their economic parameters.
