Effect of Gender Inequalities on Human Capital Development in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract
Sub-Saharan Africa is characterized by high gender inequalities and low levels of human capital. Sen`s theory of "capabilities" and gender theory support the negative effect of gender inequalities on human capital formation. This paper analyzes the effects of gender inequalities on human capital development in sub-Saharan Africa. Using the dynamic model with panel data for the period 1990–2020, the results showed that gender inequalities negatively affect human capital development. Policies to promote gender parity and reduce gender inequalities in access to reproductive health services, empowerment, and the labor market are powerful for human capital development in sub-Saharan Africa.Key-Words / Index Term

Abstract
Technology development in the field of information and communication (ICT) and the increased interest in the adoption of this advanced technology have built a new virtual world through which individuals are conducting their business and performing their daily activities. Although this change is considered useful for many persons, since they can obtain more flexible options to accomplish the assigned work or reach the intended goals, the existence of the digital world has triggered new types of risks and concerns. Security, privacy, and ethical issues have been observed in various sectors. The electronic learning (e-learning) environment is the space where students need to trust learning management systems (LMSs), and where procedures are expected to ensure a complete protection of students’ information, discussions, grades, and ideas. This paper-based study plans to provide a better understanding regarding the concerns of cybersecurity including remote assessment and awareness in cybersecurity, privacy, and academic integrity to spread awareness in e-learning environment.Key-Words / Index Term

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of practical on students’ performance in science among secondary school students in Kano Municipal local government area. The study was conducted in six public secondary schools in Kano municipal local government area that study involved 217 students. Stratified sampling and Simple random sampling were used to obtain a sample of 6 public secondary schools for this study. The unit of sampling was the level of the students rather than individual students because levels operate as intact groups. The research instruments used in the study included students’ questionnaire and students’ achievement tests. The data from the questionnaires was displayed using descriptive (frequencies and percentages). The study revealed that teaching and learning of chemistry practical in secondary schools is has significant impact on students’ ability in learning Chemistry, improved students’ intellectual ability and performance also improves when different types of Chemistry practical are used. The study showed that students have a lot to benefit from Chemistry practical. Other benefits may include increasing students’ interest and abilities in science subjects as well as their achievement in science. The study recommends that more practical work should be used when teaching and learning chemistry in senior secondary schools. Teacher training colleges should train teachers to use hands-tools so that they can improvise, where possible, science equipment for practical work. Large class should be divided to smaller groups while considering a practical class. An in-depth study of teacher competence in the teaching of practical chemistry is suggested.Key-Words / Index Term

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused numerous changes in the global education sector, and school curricula have had to adapt to a non-face-to-face mode. On the other hand, international research has concluded that this modality has influenced students` academic performance. The current endeavour aimed to ascertain the extent of the variables influencing science learners` academic performance. The study used a descriptive research design, and the mean was used as the statistical tool to describe the factors influencing students` academic performance in science. Results showed that the level of instructional management was very high in the area of instructional strategies while high in the area of motivational skills and learning content efficacy. Moreover, the motivation and learning environment perceived by the students were high. Consequently, the proficiency level of Grade 9 students on performance in science in the aspect of Biology and Chemistry was very satisfactory.Key-Words / Index Term

Abstract
This research work is to conduct a clinical test to estimate the prevalence rate of type 1 and 2 diabetes among agrarian communities in Benue South. A cross-sectional community-based survey, in every Local Government Area of zone C, was examined for Diabetes and High blood pressure. The data generated from the testing of Diabetes (blood glucose) and High Blood Pressure by terms of medical laboratory scientists were organized into tables in respect of age group and gender. The test was conducted after a high level of enlightenment program with the communities in Zone C. Statistical analysis was performed using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 20. A total of 749 persons were tested for Diabetes and 291 tested positive for Diabetes (38.9%). A total of 185 persons tested positive for High blood pressure (24.7%). From the analysis, the prevalence rate of diabetes in respect of gender, the male prevalence rate is 47.3% while the female is 38.7%. The productive age is the most affected by diabetes. Otukpo Local Government Area has the highest number of the person with Diabetes and High blood pressure. The prevalence rate of High blood pressure in the zone is 24.7%. Correlation analysis between diabetes rate and High blood pressure shows a high degree of positive relationship of 0.674. A test of significance using a T-test with the hypothesis to accept the null hypothesis t-cal > T-tab, the T-calculated is 2.00 and T-from table at n-1 degree of freedom is 1.64. Since 2.0>1.641, it is accepted that correlation is significant to the study.Key-Words / Index Term

Promoting Life Skills and Careers among Senior High School Learners

Abstract
Life skills are vital factors in the social and holistic development of people from all walks of life. This study was undertaken to determine the view as well as the attitude of awareness and value of life skills of the graduating senior high school learners. The study used a quantitative method of research. The number of learner-respondents was limited to 50 randomly selected grade 12 learners from two senior high schools in the Schools Division of City of Meycauayan, Bulacan, Philippines. Data collected were treated using frequency, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and Pearson r-test. Results revealed that the learner-respondents show awareness and value of life skills. They also value the contribution of their parents and teachers in different learning life skills. The parent-teacher-school relationship is related to the life skills of learner-respondents however the relationship is weak. The relationship between teachers’ contribution and learner-respondents’ preparedness is also weak. It is also the same with parents’ contribution and learner-respondents’ preparedness. The current setup in the new normal where interaction with the teachers and parents’ role as learning facilitators did not contribute to the learners’ feelings of preparedness in any of the curriculum exits.Key-Words / Index Term

Abstract
Dissotis rotundifolia (Sm.) Triana is a member of the Melastomaceae family that comprises the tropical and subtropical plants. The phytochemical and proximate composition of the plant leaf was investigated using standard laboratory procedures. The level of significance was measured using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Cardiac glycosides (5.65±0.44%) were the major active chemical component present in the leaf of D. rotundifolia while steroids were absent. Considerable high levels of alkaloids, anthraquinone glycosides, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, tannins and terpenes were also detected in this plant part. Fat content (72.53±0.49%) was the highest nutrient found whereas ash (4.10±1.05%) was the least. Based on the findings of this study, the use of the leaves of this plant as food and drug in ethnomedicine is therefore, recommended. Moreover, D. rotundifolia leaf extracts could be regarded as good source of alkaloids, anthraquinone glycosides, cardiac glucosides, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, tannins and terpenes.Key-Words / Index Term

Aligning Waste Research and Augmentation (AWRA): Development of Seed Bombs from Used Diapers

Abstract
The ongoing threat of increasing waste output prompted the schemes to intensify the preservation and protection efforts of the environments. Though it has been a long battle, no significant steps were initiated in incorporating wastes such as sodium polyacrylate from used diapers as soil amendments. Likewise, no studies were conducted on repurposing sodium polyacrylate as clay powder substitute in seed bombs. Strict and meticulous 36 to 48 hours disinfection of the used diapers was done followed by the extraction and drying of the compounds. This controlled quasi-experimental design isolated, augmented, cultivated, and tested the sodium polyacrylate seed bombs under laboratory conditions. Created seed bombs were divided into three experimental proportions which was compared to the gold standard of seed bombs created with clay powder. After careful analysis under controlled conditions, it was found out that seed bombs with 256 grams of sodium polyacrylate encouraged faster growth of mung bean plants, with enhanced germination, more leaves, longer stems, and wider plants. By repurposing the compound from used diapers, it can help in reducing the risk of deforestation and pollution. It can encourage green initiatives for all people regardless of the geographical location. Finally, it is recommended to conduct further study on the effect of the seed bomb proportion to other seeds and different soil conditions.Key-Words / Index Term

Abstract
In today’s era of industry 4.0, business and national development is growing with no bounds. The developed countries are more developing, and their frugality covers utmost of the part of whole world. Their demand of some targets and goals to make the world to meet today’s need without affecting the ability of future centuries to meet their needs. However, the conception of sustainable growth moves beyond the terrain. The appeal of the objectives (SDG) is that everybody can participate, and every contribution—no matter how modest or significant—will have an effect on the globe. The Paris Agreement alone has created commercial potential worth US$ 23 trillion for developing markets for climate-smart investments. This study`s goal is to recognise the potential of Sustainable Development Goals in reducing inequality. The Data from previous 22 years (year 2000 to financial year 2022) of 163 countries across the world has been collected through department of economic and social affairs, United Nations. Panel data analysis has been used to test the result. It is found that sustainable development goals have significant negatively influenced the income group. The high the SDG score, the low the income inequality. SDG has potential to reduce the income inequality. fixed effect model is found the best suitable model out of three model i.e., pooled model, random model and fixed effect model. It has highest explanation capacity in comparison to other two models. It is explaining 71.42 percentage of the variance in the data. The studies demonstrate that the study of economic inequality has much to offer the SDG-based global policy discourse.Key-Words / Index Term
