  Assessment of the Impact of Solid Waste on Groundwater Quality in Ikole Town, Ekiti State, Nigeria: A Case Study of Otunja and Asin Dumpsites

  Abstract
  This study aimed to assess the impact of solid waste on the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of underground water in some areas of Ikole town in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study was conducted by collecting groundwater samples from Otunja and Asin, which were contaminated by domestic wastewater. The samples were analysed using conventional tests, infrared spectrophotometer (IR), and atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) equipment to measure pollutants concentration of groundwater. The study also compared the characteristics of a control well with the underground water at the dumping sites and evaluated the effect of the solid wastes on each well by comparing the quality to WHO standard. The results showed that the presence of solid waste in the dumping sites had a significant impact on the quality of groundwater, which was contaminated with pollutants such as turbidity, pH, alkalinity, biochemical oxygen demand, total solid, suspended solid, and microbial analysis. The study recommends the implementation of proper waste management practices to prevent groundwater contamination and protect human health.

  Assessment of the Domestic Water Quality in a Higher Institution in the Niger Delta of Nigeria

  This current study assessed the domestic water quality in a higher institution in the Western Niger Delta of Nigeria. The study objectives focused on evaluating the microbiological and physicochemical parameters associated with the used domestic water in the institution, compare the results with the National (NESREA) and International (WHO) Standards for domestic water acceptability, demonstrate sources of contamination and suggest technological solutions. The regulatory standards of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) of Nigeria and the World Health Organization (WHO) were used as control standards in this study. Twenty-two (22) domestic water samples were collected from six different sampling stations of the institution. These sampling stations were labeled as Male Hostel 1, Male Hostel 2, Female Hostel, Staff Quarters, Cafeteria and Law Faculty Borehole respectively. Standard microbiological and physicochemical methods were employed for water quality assessment. Average results of microbiological parameters such as Total Heterotrophic Bacteria (3.6 x 105 CFU/ml), Total Coliform (6.6 x 104 CFU/ml), Fecal Coliform (4.4 x 104 CFU/ml), Fecal Streptococci (2.7 x 104 CFU/ml), Vibrio (7.8 x 104 CFU/ml), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (3.9 x 104 CFU/ml) and Total Fungi (1.8 x 104 CFU/ml) from all the sampling stations, were above the National (NESREA) and International (WHO) regulatory limits of Total Heterotrophic Bacteria (1.0 x 102 CFU/ml), Total Coliform (0 CFU/ml), Fecal Coliform (0 CFU/ml), Fecal Streptococci (0 CFU/ml), Vibrio (0 CFU/ml), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (0 CFU/ml), Total Fungi (0 CFU/ml) in all the water samples analyzed. Protozoa (8.5 x 102 cysts/ml) and Helminthes (1.5 x 102 cyst/ml) were found in only two (2) samples in the study. Results of some of the physicochemical parameters such as Dissolved Oxygen (39.25 mg/l), Calcium (61.175 mg/l), Oil and Grease (287.83 mg/l), Potassium (24.63 mg/l) and Turbidity (6.03 NTU) from all the sampling stations were above the National (NESREA) and International (WHO) regulatory limits of Dissolved Oxygen (4 – 10 mg/l), Calcium (50.00 mg/l), Oil and Grease (100.00 mg/l), Potassium (0.50 mg/l) and Turbidity (5.00 NTU) for drinking water. Escherichia coli is the predominant organism isolated from all the sampling stations assessed in this current study. The study showed that the domestic water used in the higher institution in the creeks of the Western Niger Delta of Nigeria, did not meet the NESREA and WHO regulatory standards for domestic water acceptability. Lack of water treatment plant, poor hygiene of water users, poor sanitation and lack of proper maintenance of the water facilities are causes of contaminations in the used domestic water of the institution. The study therefore, recommends construction of Water Treatment Plant across boreholes, regular inspection and maintenance of water facilities as well as proper handling of the water before usage.

  Exploring Strategies for Addressing Sexual Violence among Students in Selected Secondary Schools of Mzimba District in Malawi

  Addressing sexual violence has become a major focus of educational research due to the devastating consequences it has on students in schools. Implementing effective preventive measures can help schools deal with sexual violence and provide a safe environment for all students. This study explored strategies for addressing sexual violence among students in secondary schools in Mzimba district, Malawi. A qualitative approach was used to collect data from a total of 53 respondents. The study population was comprised of teachers, students, deputy head teachers, and head teachers. Strategies for addressing sexual violence were revealed through six unstructured focus group discussions, five interviews and a documentary analysis. Through thematic analysis, guidance and counselling, sexual education, code of ethics for students, safe school environment, students` involvement, stakeholders` involvement, training for teachers and teachers` code of conduct. Through pairwise ranking with teachers, it was determined that guidance and counselling were the most effective strategies. Socioecological theory was used to understand the strategies employed in schools to address sexual violence among students. The study, therefore, concludes that addressing sexual violence among students in secondary schools is possible by effectively using various strategies at once. In order to maintain uniformity and effectively manage sexual violence in all secondary schools, the government should create a policy prohibiting any form of sexual violence in schools.

  This research aims to investigate the factors that have contributed to Mr. Pitha Limcharoenrat`s inability to assume the role of Prime Minister of Thailand, despite his victory in the election. The study will focus on five key factors: the influence of democratic institutions, the dynamics of parliamentary support, judicial interventions, the role of conservative political parties, and the involvement of influential business groups with vested interests. By exploring the interplay of these factors, the research seeks to understand the complexities that hindered Mr. Pitha Limcharoenrat`s path to the Prime Ministerial position. The significance of democratic institutions in ensuring the legitimacy of elected governments will be examined, alongside the impact of opposition strategies and coalition formation on his ability to form a stable government. The study will also explore the role of the Constitutional Court in shaping his candidacy and investigate the influence of conservative political parties and influential business groups in obstructing his leadership prospects. The findings are expected to have implications for democratic governance in Thailand and offer valuable insights for other democracies facing similar challenges. A combination of qualitative and statistical analyses will be employed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex political landscape surrounding Mr. Pitha Limcharoenrat`s candidacy.

  This study aimed to explore how interactivity, customer support, and the adoption of technology impact customer loyalty within the Nigerian banking sphere. The primary objective was to establish correlations among interactivity, customer support, technology adoption, and customer loyalty. Three hypotheses were crafted, deriving theoretical underpinnings from Rogers` innovation diffusion theory and the technology acceptance model (TAM). Utilizing a cross-sectional survey, 384 customers from eight internationally authorized banks in Bauchi State, Nigeria, were sampled through a convenience-based approach. Data collection involved a five-point Likert scale questionnaire analyzed using SPSS version 23.0, employing multiple regression coefficients to scrutinize the hypotheses, all of which were eventually dismissed. The findings highlighted significant associations between interactivity, customer support, technology adoption, and customer loyalty in the Nigerian banking domain. In summary, this research underscores the positive impact of interactivity, customer support, and technology adoption on customer loyalty in Nigerian banking, proposing enhancements like refining website interactivity, optimizing online banking services, and promoting awareness regarding the advantages of e-banking within the industry.

  Abstract
  The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a global surge in the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, and PPE kits, as well as an increased demand for medical facilities such as injections and medicines. In response to this, countries like India have implemented comprehensive rules and regulations governing the management of various waste streams, including solid waste, hazardous waste, and biomedical waste. Effective waste management necessitates the collection, segregation, and transportation of these wastes in an organized and responsible manner. The Solid Waste Management Rule of 2016 in India places the onus on waste generators to collect waste in a segregated manner and transfer it to designated waste collectors. This research study delves into an analysis of solid waste generation within households and evaluates public awareness and adherence to waste management practices. Employing both quantitative and qualitative research methods, the study reveals a spectrum of behaviors and attitudes among individuals. Findings indicate that while some individuals diligently collect and segregate waste, adhering to established regulations, others lack awareness and engagement in responsible waste management practices. Encouragingly, a notable proportion of the population expresses readiness to participate in training programs aimed at enhancing their knowledge in this area. This research underscores the importance of a holistic approach to waste management, emphasizing that solid waste should be perceived as a valuable resource, aptly termed "wealth" rather than "waste."

  Abstract
  The development and preservation of an organization`s competitive advantage over rival establishments depend heavily on organizational competency; nonetheless, little research has been conducted on administrators in state universities and colleges in the Philippines. This study wanted to determine the level of organizational competence, organizational climate, leadership competence, and quality management practices of SUC administrators and how they described their organizational competence and organizational climate in Region XII-Philippines. This study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-method research design. There were 219 administrators from 5 (SUCs) being utilized in this study using stratified random sampling. Weighted mean was used to identify the level of organizational competence, leadership competence, organizational climate, and quality management practices. Five (5) key informant interviewees were purposely selected for the interview. There was one (1) representative for each state university and college (administrator and faculty). Emergent themes were generated using Quirkos Software. The findings of the study revealed that SUC administrators exhibited a high level of organizational competence, leadership competence, organizational climate, and quality management practices. This suggested that SUC administrators may sustain their best practices on organizational competence to advance their existing status.

  Abstract
  Cyber-attacks are becoming a terror almost too all organizations worldwide. With the rise of cloud computing technology almost all organizations are migrating there businesses on cloud virtual machines. It is found that because of programmatic and declarative level missing securities most of the applications hosted on cloud are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Attackers are always ready to exploit web and cloud vulnerabilities. Research shows that most of web applications hosted on cloud are targeted because of unpatched open web application security project (OWASP) vulnerabilities and vulnerabilities in cloud containers and network resources. Attackers exploit such vulnerabilities through advance attack vectors leading to attack on data confidentially, integrity and availability and here comes the role of application security assurance framework for mitigating such attacks. The novel approach of this paper is that it explores missing programmatic and declarative level securities and proposes advance web application information security assurance based on programmatic and declarative security best practices.

  Abstract
  Learner gender might have an impact on students’ academic performance in integrated English in PDSS in Nandi North Sub County, Kenya. In Nandi North Sub County, dismal academic performance has persistently been registered in most public day secondary school in integrated English, despite the government and MOE investment on these schools. The purpose of the study was to explore the influence of learner gender on their performance in integrated English in Nandi North Sub County. The specific objective of the study was to explore and enhance knowledge on their performance in integrated English the extent to which learner gender influence the performance of integrated English in the selected area of study. The study targeted 41 mixed day public secondary school and 1435 form three students in Nandi North Sub County. The research adopted descriptive design and ex post-facto research method. Simple random sampling of schools and form three students were used in the sampled schools. Purposive sampling was used to choose the 10 school principals and 10 class teachers in the sampled schools. The main instruments of collecting data were both structured and unstructured questionnaires, interview schedules and document analysis. Pilot study was conducted to ensure reliability and validity of the research instruments. The collected data was processed and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that learners’ gender had a significant positive influence on academic performance (?=0.532, p < 0.05). The study concluded that learners’ gender, enhances learners’ academic performance. The study recommended that schools should be gender sensitive if improvement in learners` performance in Integrated English is to be achieved. Schools should consider the attitude and aspirations of the learners, if an improvement in performance in Integrated English is to be achieved.

  Impact of Extracurricular Activities on Learners` Engagement: A Case Study of Secondary School Students in Urban West Zanzibar

  Abstract
  In-depth investigation of the significance and effects of extracurricular activities on learners` engagement was carried out in Zanzibar`s Urban West Region. The study, which included teachers as respondents, sought to investigate both the beneficial and detrimental effects of extracurricular activities on students. Study employed qualitative approach among teachers where by Purposeful sampling technique used for choosing 48 teachers from secondary school in Urban West Region where included in answering interviews and focus group discussion. Results demonstrated that extracurricular activities benefit students` development, including the acquisition of skills, the formation of future successful occupations, the prevention of dropout, the decrease of academic anxiety, and the mitigation of societal difficulties. However, the study also showed that extracurricular activities might have unfavorable outcomes, such as the acquisition of undesirable behavior and the difficulty of being time-consuming. In addition, it was highlighted how crucial civic participation was in education and how diverse learning settings were necessary for it. According to the study`s findings, improving extracurricular activity facilities, taking facilitators into account, and reintegrating extracurricular activities into the regular class schedule are all necessary. It was concluded that extracurricular activities are very important as they contribute significantly to students in learning. It was recommended for enhancing the benefits brought and mitigating the negative impact for sustained and academic practice in schools. The study concluded by providing managerial implications and the avenue for further study in the area. It recommends that the Government and other education stakeholders to emphasize the implementation of extracurricular activities in schools to boost learners` engagement and civic participation in Zanzibar by allocate resources strategically and systematically tracking progress and outcomes.
