  Evaluation of the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Lecturers Work Engagement in Nigerian Universities

  Abstract
  The study evaluated the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on lecturers’ work engagement in Nigerian Universities. Five questions were raised and five hypotheses tested in the study. Design of the study was correlation. The population of the study was all the lecturers in Public and Private Universities in Nigeria while 60 lecturers were sampled using convenience and purposive sampling techniques. Instrument used for collection of data was questionnaire titled “Lecturers Work Engagement Scale” (LWES). The research questions were answered using Point Biserial Correlation while the hypotheses were tested by comparing the significant value with the alpha value of 0.05. Findings of the study showed minimal effects of the pandemic on lecturers’ work engagement across gender, designation, marital status, discipline and institutional type. It was also revealed that there was a negative relationship between the work engagement of lecturers based on their gender, designation and marital status but a positive relationship existed across discipline and institutional type in the era of the COVID-19 induced pandemic in Nigerian universities. Similarly, the study showed that the effects of the pandemic was significant on lecturers’ work engagement across their gender, designation, marital status and discipline but was not significant across their institutional type in Nigeria. It was revealed that adequate training programmes should be organized for these lecturers to minimize the effects of the pandemic on their work engagement.

  The Role of Tutoring: Is It Enough for Children Only Learning Through School During the COVID-19 Pandemic?

  Abstract
  Learning is a form of activity to acquire knowledge and can be carried out not only formally but also informally in accordance with the National Education System Law Number 20 of 2003. Non-formal education such as tutoring can be applied with the aim of assisting students in supporting or complementing the material provided. obtained through formal education. This study aims to make a decision on the role of tutoring institutions (non-formal) for students while implementing learning in the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic conditions. The research method used is qualitative research that is observational and supported through a literature review process. From the results of the survey conducted, it is found that tutoring has an important role in the follow-up learning process to meet the needs of students in achieving maximum learning outcomes. The importance of tutoring has a positive impact on students, namely, it can make it easier to understand material and can even find new things or new learning experiences that have not been found during learning at school.

  Success Under Pressure: A Probabilistic Analysis of the Predictors of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Results

  One of the important roles of Higher Education Institutions is to produce competent graduates who become future leaders in teacher education and fisheries technology. The study aimed to determine which predictors significantly influenced the licensure examination for teachers (LET) result. The research employed a quantitative research design and 337 LET takers from DNSC from 2015- 2019 were investigated. The study used admission test scores, academic performance, and LET results. Data were treated using frequency, Spearman’s correlation, and binary logistic regression. It is revealed that the majority of LET takers who entered teacher education got an average entrance test score and very good academic performance Study revealed that 89.9% of the LET takers passed the exam. The study confirmed that there was a weak, positive monotonic correlation between entrance test scores and LET results, and academic performance and LET results. It is concluded that of the two variables, statistically, only the admission test score has the likelihood to influence the LET results. It is suggested that schools offering Teacher Education Programs consider accepting students with high admission test scores since the study confirmed that for every 1-point increase of the admission test score, the likelihood that the LET average score increase by approximately 2. Further investigation may consider and explore using other research designs and variables which is not included in the variables under investigation

  The challenge of unimpressive performance in science subjects is worldwide as revealed by various international research investigation. The increasing rate of low academic achievement and failures in science subjects in schools may significantly impact both individual students whose target was to proceed with tertiary education and seek a lifetime opportunity. However, all of these aims may be affected by the unimpressive performance of students in science subjects. The purpose of this research was to explore the experiences of science teachers who faced difficulties and obstacles while teaching non-science courses. The study used a qualitative phenomenological approach with two data collection methods: in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. In this study, 14 science instructors from secondary schools in Montevista district, Davao de Oro Division, Mindanao, Philippines participated. On the basis of teachers` experiences teaching non-science subjects, three key themes emerged. As to the result, the study further recommends on the revisitation on the hiring policy, plans and programs for teachers particularly the need for teacher’s alignment of subject as to what teachers’ specialization or subject field of expertise.

  Educational Technology is a newly interdisciplinary field of knowledge that is establishing its relevance in the field of education. The technology in education is progressively used to design and facilitate interactive learning environments and educational spaces. Applied research and innovations in Educational Technology integrates ideas and concepts from psychology, cognitive science and neuro science. It therefore exposes new possibilities for transforming the landscapes of education and especially school education. This is resulting in free flow of new ideas and practices to make the field of education more fertile. It has compelled educators to reflect upon the conventional practices and learning processes for transformation. The present research paper investigates the Indian classroom to understand how technology is changing the Mathematics teaching and learning in Indian classrooms. The classroom was observed and investigated for the academic achievement and attitude transformation in students. Each broad category was investigated along with the underlying quality processes to unfold the hidden potential for excellence. This research paper with an insight into the Educational Technology assisted classrooms, would take us a step closer to understanding the reality and how the learner of today is different.

  Abstract
  Nowadays, in most parts of the world, older persons are increasingly becoming a larger share of the total population. Malaysia, as in other parts of the developing countries, has also shown signs of population ageing. Despite the number of the population of people aged 60 years are still small, the older people in Malaysia are going towards ageing. Following the number and percentage of older persons are growing, the need to gather information on this category of the population has become an urgent need. The aim of this paper is to discuss the patterns and reasons of expenditure of Muslim older person’s household in the rural community in Malaysia. Mixed methods research was selected as a research design, and one district in one of the states in Malaysia was chosen as a location of the study. A total of 214 older persons as respondents, and 10 older persons as research participants, were chosen for the study. Data were collected through questionnaires and unstructured interviews. Data collected through questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques, and data collected through unstructured interviews were analyzed using a narrative approach. The result showed that older persons used the whole of their income for food. It showed that the level of the standard of living of older persons in the study area was relatively low. The result also showed that the reasons of expenditure were related to the level of income of older persons, family size, and culture of rural communities. In conclusion, Muslim older persons in rural communities need proper financing, good family and social support to be able to earn a decent life.

  Tillage operation is the most power-intensive activity in agriculture. Ethiopian agriculture is primarily based on animal power, which is a drudgery, time-wasting, and energy-consuming work. In this research paper, a two-wheel hand tractor (single axle power tiller) and local animal power (using pair of oxen) have been used as treatment. The lay pout of the treatments had a 10-meter width by 40-meter length replicated three times. The experiment was conducted in three rice potential districts namely Fogera, Libokemkem, and Dera for three consecutive years. During the experiment, the most fundamental tillage parameters such as the width of cut, operation depth, speed of operation, fuel consumption (for power tiller), and yield data were recorded. From the three locations, most parameters had better performance at the Libokemkem site. The width, speed of operation, field capacity, and field efficiency were significantly (P<0.05) different for the two treatments with values of (29.951, 26.142) cm, (3.633, 2.214) km/hr, (0.108, 0.057) ha.hr-1and (74.822, 69.682)%, respectively for power tiller and animal power. The fuel consumption was the least at Dera district with 9.411 L/ha consumption. The grain yield was 4.92 and 4.61 tone/ha for power tiller and draught animal respectively. The study indicated that using a power tiller for rice production was economically viable.

  Abstract
  This study aimed to determine the satisfaction level of SHS students with the overall performance of Elpidio Quirino High School in the new normal. The result of the study used as the basis for the development and improvement of Elpidio Quirino High School in the next phase. The researchers used the descriptive quantitative data analysis and used purposive sampling method in the study. The findings revealed that the satisfaction level of SHS students of Elpidio Quirino High in terms of teachers teaching strategies and techniques got a mean of 4.46 (SD=0.55) which is verbally interpreted as “Somewhat Satisfied”. The satisfaction level on the administration management got a mean of score 4.36 (SD=0.62) which is interpreted as “Somewhat Satisfied”. The two Indicators received a “Somewhat Satisfied” interpretation. Therefore, it recommends that the teachers and administration must take necessary action to give satisfaction to their students. The study also shows that there is no significant difference in the satisfaction level of the student to the overall performance of the Elpidio Quirino High School in terms of their grade level at z=1.96 (p=0.336) and track at z=1.96 (p=0.569).

  Abstract
  This study intends to find out the influence of Self-Esteem on and Social Appearance of Tik Tok Users, as well as to see if the aggregate Social Support from Significant Others, Families and Friends could serve as moderator. Fifty-three TikTok users were the respondent of this study who voluntarily answer through the Google Form link sent to them. The results revealed that the most watched videos of TikTok users were Dance Covers, level of Self-esteem is Average, levels of Social Support coming from significant others, families, and friends were all High. Most of the respondents have Above Average Social Appearance Anxiety. Self-esteem is negatively associated with Social Appearance Anxiety; Social Support has no direct and indirect effect to Social Appearance Anxiety, nor the Self-esteem influence the anxiety level of the respondents nor the combining Self-esteem and Social Support.

  Abstract
  The study assessed the measures required for the developmental impacts of extraction and manufacturing of limestone at Nanyala village in Mbozi district Tanzania. It employed a case study design with a qualitative approach. Purposive sampling was adopted to interact with the 80 sample of community members and some key informants. The interviews, focus group discussion, consultations with key stakeholders, documentary review, and observation methods were used in the data collection process. The results indicated that the development will have impacts on the pre-construction, construction, operation, and decommissioning phases of the development that require measures. These included resettlement, change in land use, employment opportunities, and deforestation. Others were an increase in migrant workers, agglomeration of economic activities and rural electrification. There was a need for the adoption of mitigation measures to address the negative impacts and enhancement measures for the positive impacts. Mitigation measures will include the project to compensate for the loss of land, implement conservation measures like the establishment of a project forest farm. Also, other measures include the employment of the state of the art technology, and protective gear for workers. It will also involve the sourcing of forest products for the development from legally authorized distributors, and adherence to good construction and operational standards. The enhancement measures will involve the adoption of relevant employment policy and the promotion of related economic activities. The government had designated the area for mineral resources prospecting and mining licenses. It was concluded that the negative impacts can be mitigated in the course of maximizing the economic and community benefits identified for the development. It is recommended for the observation of monitoring and management plan in the overall lifespan of the development.
